the phil hellmuth car
Another Day in the Life...

"I sign all the autographs, I smile for everybody... it's not always easy."

"I'm becoming very wealthy, very rich and famous."

"It looks to me like we're going to sell hundreds of millions of dollars worth of phil hellmuth clothing."

A classic from the interviewer, said without irony: "You have a great perspective on things."

"Two years from now I'm going to get in the phil hellmuth car."

"I need my sons to tell me I'm the most uncool adult in the world." You know phil, you don't really need your sons to tell you that.

not only is that a ridiculous expectation from a purely business perspective, but to think that he called his clothing line POKER BRAT and still expects sane men and women to buy it speaks volumes

"...they cheat on their wives, the worst I do is stay up until 6 in the morning" Comments from the lonley spot of a nine time bracelet winner. The guy tries on his sunglasses, something I have yet to try in my lifetime (need to get around to that i suppose). Its not as bad as sharing chap stick, but seems like its in the same ballpark. If and when the hundred million in gear is sold, work on the mole Phil.

I swear, in 3 or 4 years, Phil's going to be one of those people that others know is famous (because his name is everywhere), but don't really know why or how.

That must be the one that blows a gasket and steams for twenty minutes when it catches a brick on Fourth Street, right? Special features: Oakley-tinted windshield that makes everyone outside appear green with envy; driver-side douchebags.

Pure comedy! That may have been the most entertaining postgame interview since Dock Ellis threw his no-hitter. Complete with Rich Bellsqueak as a young Jim Gray, "don't blow this, don't blow this, this is Phil "Camp" Hellmuth you're talking to, do NOT blow this"

Phil is a true gentleman of the sport.
Hopefully he'll satrt his own line of "Phil Hellmuth Men's Briefs" with pictures of the dark sunglassed champion in a haphazard fashion all over the brief or boxer!
I'd get a whole drawer full of his undies!
Somehow having Phil Hellmuth close to my balls might make me feel a little more masculine. Not that i need to, but it wouldn't hurt. right?

I am not sure who I enjoy watching more Phil Helmuth or Mike Matusow. I root for both of them to make it to a t.v. final table, not for their skill but for the entertainment.

The difference between Phil and Mike is that Mike knows he is being funny, Phil actually is being serious. That's what is scary.

I personally felt that the interview was more than a little sad and think that he must be in need of some serious psychiatric help.

There should be a series 99 Phil Hellmuth bobble head dolls with the head stuck up it's own arse.

Now I'm sure that would be a best seller.

Interesting comparison between Hellmuth, Oasis, and Poker players.
[info]whiskytown
2005-07-06 03:45 am UTC (link)
Seeing Phil Hellmuth reminds me of a couple images -

The first is of the band Oasis - as Noel G. said yrs ago in a Behind the Music, if you say you're the greatest band in the world often enough, a few people will start to believe you - and you only really need 51 percent for it to be true. And as if to further illustrate the point, both of them are well past their glory/reputations and are now just coasting on fumes...LOL - but it's the same blowhard image in my head...

But here's the interesting thing. People say the point of playing poker is to make money. I know people who will justify being an angle player/dickhead in the name of "making the money" by putting people on Tilt (as Phil used to do when it worked for him)

Well, Phil has found an easier way to make money - he's a dickhead, but instead of using it to put people on tilt and make more money off them, he milks it as a public image and it allows him to make a big chunk of ch-ching on his image. I remember reading a comment on this yrs. ago - where they said Phil was blowing his poker game trying to build up an image to sell stuff with, and son of a bitch if it ain't happened.

and it's totally unsubstantiated rumor, but I've heard he is making a ton more from endorsements/writing then he actually is from poker - of course, when you win as little as he does, that's not hard to believe - LOL -

so hey....all you poker players - if the point of playing poker is making money - why you be hatin'? - Just cause he can't do it by winning like everyone else, you gotta put the smackdown on him? Cause you got no bling?

Well, of course, you could be like me - and believe that even if it is +EV financially, it's most definately -EV for the soul - hence my dislike of the man. = but be careful - expect the judgement of many a reader/poker player who will chide you for not playing real poker.

aul,

I really think with all the shit you've been publishing about Hellmuth that
you should consider:

1. Move back to the Bay Area
2. Commute to Palo Alto
3. Seduce Phil
4. Go to SF & get married to him!

It would only be too perfect! :-)

And good luck in the Deuce to Seven event.

watching that clip it was like he suddenly became "Grinch"-like except instead of his heart expanding it was he ego...

"And what happened then--well, in Whoville they say
That the Poker Brat's already large ego grew three sizes that day.
And then the true meaning of pomposity came through,
And the Hellmuth found the ego of ten bracelet winners--plus two"
