Microsoft

(Permanent Link)
My company IT guy personally went around and uninstalled Firefox from every machine that had it loaded. When I asked him why, he said, "It's because of viruses." Gee thanks for that detailed explanation.

A conspiracy theorist, I thought that he might be getting an appeal from Microsoft to make sure we are all running IE.

I went back in an installed it again. He showed back up at my desk a week later, telling me that we "as a company" use Microsoft products, and that I am violating company policy by browsing with Firefox.

I continue to use it anyhow. Do you know of any lobbying by Microsoft to IT managers to rid computers of Firefox? It seems like this guy is on a MISSION to iradicate it from the building.

I would respond "Well, when I see five weirdos dressed in togas, stabbing a man in the middle of the park in front of a full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards, that's MY policy."

It would be a typical tactic for microsoft, but there are plenty of IT people who act this way without encouragement.

That was a Shakespeare In the Park production of "Julius Ceaser". You shot 5 actors.

And to think the next time I shoot someone I could actually be arrested for it...

Oh Nordberg

I'm glad the obscure reference prompted you to get a livejournal...and give yourself the appropriate screen-name to boot.

"Nurse, give this man some drugs..."

"No,Frank. Heroin...Heroin..."

"That's a pretty tall order Nordberg. You're going to have to give me a couple of days on that."

Re: Microsoft

I heard the same thing from an IT guy. There was some story about firefox being vulnerable to some viruses or having some security problems or something. Of course, IE is known to be entirely secure...
