Any site that bans posters like you but leaves trolls like SmoothCall/Vince Leopre is no friend of mine.
as a point of interest, what was the deleted post about may I inquire?
Well, at least you can take comfort in the fact that they are wildly intimidated by you.
I hadn't been able to check out the thread, so if anyone has a mirror feel, free to share.
Not always a fan of your posts, but bravo on this one Paul!!
Yep, just as you called them: Forum Nazi's. I can't stand forums like that at all. One forum I was a part of got so bad the main posters started a new one called at totalbluff.com/forums.
I know you already gave the big FU to RGP and now 4, I don't blame you at all, but now where? Are you gonna pull a Negreanu and just make your own?
Are you gonna pull a Negreanu and just make your own?
Ugh. Even the LJ is more work than I want. You're looking at "my own", such as it is.
I'm glad (and sad) that Paul exhibits the same level of diplomacy as in the past. But, yeah, screw 2+2. For what it's worth, I applaud the move, but am always wondering about whether things will change or just make some noise.
Your banishment is so absurd that commentary on that action is unnecessary.
Anyone want to lay odds on the question of whether Mat Sklansky deleted the thread independently or at the direction of **ahem** others? Finally, one thought for you Paul. You are clearly in the right here, but I'd knock off the all "Nazi" stuff. The site's moderators may be power-mad and overly-aggressive, but they aren't Nazis or the Hitler Youth. Moderators aren't Nazis; politicans aren't Nazis; heck, even neo-Nazis aren't Nazis. Let's save the Nazi labels for the real Nazis.
I like nazi references in contexts like this; they make me laugh. The word has been so abused since WWII that it's not like it's useful for meaningful comparisons anyway.
It is our policy at Two Plus Two to hold other writers to higher standards, that policy is now extended to well known public figures in poker such as yourself. Paul, Since I am not a well-known poker figure, does that mean I am allowed to indulge in trolling, rude behavior, trashing of "TV poker players", posts devoid of content, and the like? Or are those rights reserved for the moderators, nuts like Vincent Lepore and their sockpuppets and the gimmick posters? I'd ask Mason, but he might ban me from posting and then I might have to ban myself from spending more money on his company's books.
It seems that way, judging by what most of the forums look like these days.
I truly wonder, given all of the brilliant minds posting and running 2+2, whether any of them are able yet to appreciate the irony of moderators of a gambling forum becoming the moral authority on anything. I also just noticed Dynasty's new post, where he says that the T&C will now be enforced more strictly: "While using 2+2 website, you may not post or transmit any unlawful, threatening, abusive, libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, profane, or otherwise objectionable information of any kind..." Nothing that is otherwise objectionable of any kind? Should make for some exciting conversation. "Do you love Jesus?" "Heck yes I do!" "HECK??! You're out!"
You make me laugh Paul, don't ever change, I love you man.
"It is our policy at Two Plus Two to hold other writers to higher standards, that policy is now extended to well known public figures in poker such as yourself."
What crap. This justification makes sense when you are criticizing someone's arguments. But it doesn't make any sense at all when it comes to banning someone from the forum. Every well-known writer/player who posts on the forum is a significant asset and, as such, should be given MASSIVE leeway. Ugh. Not a good day for the forums. Will
What a shame. I don't see at all why you were banned, and Mason's note is a bit over-the-top, but I also can't say that I understand the vehemence about forum practices in your deleted post, either. Is Dynasty drunk with power? Maybe, but I have little doubt that the site is better off without the posters he banned, other than you. I can tolerate some moderator dick swinging as long as the site doesn't turn into RGP.
Paragraph 1: Extremely valid point
Paragraph 2: Extremely valid point Paragraphs 3+4: Completely off topic to the point of your post. What does your FAQ say...don't post off topic? There are certainly better ways for an obviously erudite person such as yourself to make your point(s) about the flaws in the forum than insults of the sort you used. The forum interface could definitely use improvement. Dynasty's moderation style leaves much to be desired and it is inappropriate for the moderator to be commenting on who he has and has not banned in anything but an informational basis. Stuff like that. Jumping right to "dick swinging contest" and "brain damaged intereface" is pretty harsh and, I'm sure you know, won't elicit a favorable response from the owners/moderators. To the contrary, it simply makes them defensive and less likely to act on the suggestions. It seems clear that 2+2 is making some effort to prevent 2+2 from going the way of RGP (which went from being full of extremely useful advice and interetsting content, to a place where the flamewars drove away essentially every useful poster), but having a hard time balancing the freedom to post as you wish with the need to continue meaningful content. The whole moderator concept is fairly new there and seems to be a work in progress still. Not an easy job. My two cents anyways.
I wasn't setting out to be joe constructive; I don't work for 2+2. I was speaking my mind in the fashion that came to mind. The question is not whether that was the optimal approach, the question is whether that post warranted my being banned. Apparently, yes.
The whole moderator concept is fairly new there and seems to be a work in progress still. Not sure what you mean, they've been deleting posts since time immemorial. Abdul Jalib's departure over deleted posts goes back to somewhere in the '90s.
Do you have a recommendation for someone who's just starting to be poker-literate enough to have useful things to say/learn on a poker forum but agrees that's a horseshit way to run a site?
Paul Phillips - the Terrell Owens of the 2+2 forums. Not only do you need to apologize, but you must be contrite and mean every word of it. I believe Drew Rosenhaus has a form apology he can email you. Just do a couple of substitutions in vi.

That whole forum is a bunch of poker snobs. Everyone is an expert who tells you that your topic has already been extensively covered, they make 200,000 a year playing poker, and they can laydown bottom set in a heartbeat. If I wanted to deal with those people I'd join a country club.
Just so I'm following the story correctly Harrah's got 2 million in sponsorship for adding Hellmuth, Doyle, and Chan, correct? They could just pay the $500 each in equity out of that if the players in the tourney complained enough.
It seems like they run this forum in the same fashion kids run a (enter popular video game) forum. "I'm taking my ball and going home"
"Now to post over there one more time so mason can have the satisfaction of banning me for good."
But if you do that, you're going to go back on your "my first deleted post will be my last" vow! People will think you're a flip-flopper!
It is our policy at Two Plus Two to hold other writers to higher standards, that policy is now extended to well known public figures in poker such as yourself.
This implies that the rules were changed especially for you, right then and there. Snap decisions are great!
Dynasty, the moderator in the TV Poker sub-forum, has been on quite the rampage lately, banning several regular posters for what seems to be no reason at all. I heard that Russ McGinley was banned for his icon fer chrissakes.
No doubt some moderation is necessary for 2+2, given its burgeoning traffic. It's really being overdone, however, and it may make for a better forum if it went paysite and toned down the zeal of the moderators to quash anyone who uses the wrong intonation. I'll contintue to read and occasionally post, but posting seems too much effort for too little reward, and I generally like to keep my good ideas to myself anyway. Unless I can sell them, of course. :-P
so my question is, where now? Something tells me heading to FCP won't be the answer. Would anyone here be interested in working together to make a worthwhile forum?

I am not in an articulate mood so I will just go ahead and declare: this is super weak. 2+2 threads were made better by Paul whether you love or hate.
Also, what a genuinely unoffensive offending post. In my experience, this is simply what happens when you give people with no life big buttons to click on that say "Kick", "Ban" or "Delete" on them. Oh well, there is still this place or maybe the FullTilt forums. -joey
Getting perma-banned from a site like 2+2 is a notch in the old belt. I've always thought Mason was a little weird, but he really is lame, isn't he?
There's some good information on 2+2, but too much BS to sift through. High post count = expert in their own mind.
Your post was right on the spot, and being banned for honest criticism just shows what a bunch of mronos they are.
2+2 moderation is in overdrive now. They are monitoring and deleting posts left and right.
Paul, I just now read your "apology" on 2+2. That is hilarious !
